De bijdrage van vrouwen aan de toegepaste kunst en industriële vormgeving is sterk onderbelicht gebleven, terwijl juist in die tijd hun arbeidsdeelname toenam, vanwege de voortschrijdende emancipatie. Aanvankelijk richtten vrouwen zich op typisch vrouwelijke textiele handwerken als kunstnaaldwerk en weven. Vanaf 1985 werkten zij ook als schilderessen bij aardewerkfabrieken, als grafische vormgevers, batikkers en ambachtelijk boekbinders. Na 1904 kwam het ambachtelijk koperwerk erbij, en vanaf 1910...
